Can anyone tell me what the model # of the backhoe is for the Legacy XL.

I am trying to search for one (possibly used). I cant look up the manual on the website, as you need the model to get the manual

p.s. has any one put an after market hoe on there Legacy (Bushhog, Wallenstien, etc).

I really need a backhoe, but I dont want to pay $6000 for one, when I only paid $8000 for the tractor/FEL/MMM.

Hey, I found the owner's manual.

Model 51-00210, manufactured by Kwik-way

The backhoe is very powerful, operating at 1900 psi. The Legacy w/loader weights 1700lbs and the backhoe weights another 700 lbs. The backhoe will have it's way with the whole tractor so you need to finesse it so the tractor stays in one place. The pump is driven off the mid PTO and the hoe has good speed, such that I typically run the motor at ~2000 rpms only.

The two things that blow about the hoe are: the mower must come off. Fine, it's obviously better to take it off but if I'm only transplanting Hostas for example it would be nice to leave the deck on, and: it is not a small task to put on/take off. The loader goes on and off in <2 minutes for the entire transaction. I know that any brand hoe is going to take a while compared to the loader but for this hoe I must remove the mower, hang the pump and attach to the mid PTO, and connect three pins and a bolt. Sounds easy but lining up the unit can be a major pain. If the stars line up then figure 15 minutes to put on. Typically it is 30 minutes, and you are working the whole time.

That said, the hoe is a terrific unit and you can do some serious work. In fact, I have it installed right now and was working it this past weekend. Of course to vacuum leaves I must remove for this weekend. When I finally build a garage with a level concrete floor this will become far easier. I will build a dolly and fab some rollers to let the 3-pt hitch help out more effectively.

Good luck on finding one.
