leaves with a little cedar mixed in

1202 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  rubadub
My son and I put a pickup load of leaves on my garden, and I haven't spread them out yet to be tilled down.

He has some tips of some cedar boughs mixed in maybe 10 or 15% cedar, should I remove the whole pile or will the cedar be okay in the garden, thanks.

if your worried about the acid .throw a bag of lime on.that little bit shouldn,t hurt anything.
Cedar doesn't promote growth, but a little shouldn't hurt too much.
You guys have me thinking maybe I should take it out.:)

Im thinking the worst thing is that the ceader just does not brake down... Are you going to leave it in a pile for a wile, or till it in before winter? If yout leaving the pile I would not worry about it. It will help make air pockets in the pile, that will help the pile brake down faster. Just pull them out before you till.

I could leave it in a pile, I won't rototill until spring, I usually spread them all over the garden area.
I took the pile out of the garden today.

Thanks again men.

I would have let the pile sit in the garden and remove the cedar in the spring.. This way any "juice" from the decomposting pile could soak into the garden..
