Just got this lb 7260G and another one for 10 bucks. They just needed the recoils put back together. So when taking this one apart I noticed a Spring, see lb image part number 64. It was all bent up and tangled up in the fly wheel. I need this spring and I need to know where it goes?!?

This is my first venture this deep into a lawn boy. So I will take all the help I can get. This mowers deck is in near perfect condition. However this D409? Engine correct? doesn't seem to have much compression, I don't have a gauge so I would like to get it back together and see if it will start/run.

Anyway any tips to where that spring 64 goes? Also any tips on how to set the points gap? Any other tips:) Here are a few pics. Also as you can see I have a few projects to get together in the next month or so.

The mower with the shroud off.

Up close this is where one end of the spring was attached.

Yeah Wolfy that is the variable speed spring, it attaches to the governor lever and the other end will go through a slot in the mag plate and the speed control lever will slide in that opening from underneath the mag plate to increase, or decrease tension on the governor spring. If you need a spring I can help with that, but if you need the speed control lever I don't think I would have one for that late model machine. I'll post some pics if you have any questions.

EDIT; I think that on your model item #62 will go through that spring on the lower end below the mag plate, I think on that model it is called a knob and lever. I hope that makes a little sense to ya.

That makes perfect sense. I know exactly what you are talking about. I do have that speed control lever it is still there.

For the spring, let me check my local shop here to see if they can get it. Heck I went in yesterday and they had in stock those thimble shaped primer bulbs. They usually have just about everything I have needed in stock. But I may be contacting you for that.

Thanks so much for the help. I may have some other questions when I get it back together.

I think that you may have an earlier model than a 7260G, the mower you have in the pic doesn't quite match the parts catalogue diagram that you posted. I think you have something like what I have, a 7260B, since the 7260G has the fuel tank built in to the shroud and a different carb. No big deal, the variable speed spring is probably the same.

I was just thinking the same thing Lb77. The 7260g used a plastic shroud with the tank molded in, were as that is a fiberglass shroud, also, the carb on the 7260g is a crappy plastic one with a primer bulb, and this one is metal with the round air filter and primer stick

7260 is a very similar machine as the one pictured, but the 7260 has Mag 21 written where yours says deluxe
