Lawn Vacuum Sounds

867 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  OldLawnMowerMan81
I have been watching assorted videos of lawn vacuums and I hear how, while they're running, some of them "drone" while others do not.

Billy Goat #1 (no droning):

Billy Goat #2 (no droning):

Billy Goat #3 (droning):

Could you please explain why some of these "drone" and some don't?

Thank you,

Ben

A few reasons I can think of.
A. The quality or type of the device that took the video or tech that uploaded the video.
B. The first two videos are on the lawn and the machine is surrounded by grass. The third video is on concrete. Reverberation of sound is different depending on the materials. Just a thought.
C. Do some of the machines have a baffle or shredder? That might also change the tone.
D. Possible the machines have different engines, mufflers, or the condition of them varies.

I think they all make the same sound. The difference here is one is being used on grass and the the other one on cement. The grass surface will absorb some of the blower noise where as the hard surface bounces it all back making it much louder.
BTW, the first two videos appear to feature the same operator, and thus likely the same machine. The third video actually quite clearly shows a different machine. Note muffler location.

This Billy Goat is operating on very low grass:

I think you're right on the sound it makes when it comes to operating the machine on concrete vs. grass.
