Well, even sand is going to trap moisture but it's better than leaving pure water in it so that is probably the best way to go. You could get a roller that has a plastic drum but I am not sure how durable they are. Either one of your tractors should handle the load of a loaded roller.

Fill it with used oil. Cheap (free), won't corrode roller, won't freeze,

If you use sand make sure it's dried sand. Sand will be a harder to remove if you need to adjust the weight. ( unless the opening is very large)

Sand will clump inside if not totally dry and will be unbalanced as it rolls unless it's completely full.
Liquid will balance and roll smoother if not full.

Don't know how heavy you can make it and still pull it. Depends on terrain, tires , weights etc.
Good luck

Dude, I love the pipes!!!!!
I have been looking for something to permanently fill mine so it doesn't rust too. I wonder if putting a percentage of antifreezw would work but I suppose it would take a lot.

Mine's poly, so no rust issues. Thought about adding some anti-freeze, but I'm not sure I could afford 10 gallons or so.

Anybody know what the quick lube places do with the used anti-freeze mix when they do a flush & fill?

I also thought about the used oil bit, but most places recycle it now, so it may not be free any more. Also, what if you spring a leak somehow?

What if you spring a leak with antifreeze, rimguard etc. ? Kills a bit of grass, you dig it out , get some clean dirt reseed it.

Find a trucking company , or excavating company. They'll have used oil or used antifreeze they'll prolly give you, cheap or free.

I only use it a couple times in the spring, so filling with plain water it isn't a problem.

For those that choose to keep those rollers full year around, remember their really a beast to move around by hand once full, or to position them in storage.

Where did you get the muffler/rain cap from?

You don't need to worry about that with RimGuard I don't believe. None toxic food product. Antifreeze I agree with.

Rimguard is beet juice. I have it in my tires. It will not hurt anything should it leak. I always drain my roller when done and leave the cap off so it gets ventilation.

It's bigger than yours, I think a 60 inch, not sure. It only takes about 15 minutes to fill at most. I do not think I could move it by hand, if it was full. Maybe on a very flat surface in my shop but I sure would not be able to manuever it around as required. It only gets used once or twice a year.
