I have a Lawn Boy V engine that is surging at hi or low throttle. I have cleaned the spark plug, carb and air vain, exhaust port, muffler and changed fuel but nothing helps. I am going to sand the rust off the coil next. Have I missed anything? Give your comments and opions please.

Thanks J

I haven't worked with the Lawn-Boy carbs a whole lot, but lately, I've found some Briggs carbs that just don't seem to clean. I've always had luck with cleaning out Tecumseh carbs, but I couldn't get these Briggs carbs to flow much fuel. I ended up replacing one (and junking the other engine).

You may price a new carb and MAY find that it's not all that expensive.

Does it surge under a load, or just when free-running?

That is governor related....

Check around the carburetor linkage for bent spring brackets and similar or springs unattached. Look for anything that may have become bent, or in some way changed by running into something, deformed or impeded from full operation by an interference of some sort like a collection of debris.....(I like that word - debris....) Like a bean stuck between moving parts!
