Lawn-Boy Hall of Fame. What are your top 5?

4976 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  LBO
If you could choose any five, what would be in your L-B Museum?

I don't know all the models, but there would be a 19" M push, a Brick Top, a couple Commercials, I would like to know what to keep
Sights on. These machines show what great engineering and Industrial quality America is capable of producing.

A most impressive stable of thoroughbreds, King. I particularly like the green and orange commercial models, and I love the old steel bearing wheels, somè with lube nipples.

But, if you had to pick your top five, what would they be?

Hi
I like my 22241 Commercial Model Lawn-Boy the best of all the previous Lawn-Boy's that I have owned. I found it earlier this spring as a buddy of mine had it. I swapped him two Murray Push Mower's that had Briggs & Stratton engine's on them. Both Murray's were curb find's so all I had Invested in them was some time in cleaning them up and getting them running. I had to replace the left rear wjheel on my 22241 as it's original orange wheel was split, and I had to put a used coil on it as it did not have any spark. Oddly they only made it one year being 1996 Only. It has the Three speed Transmission and a F-series engine on an aluminum deck with the rear mounted 10 Quart gas Tank. The front wheel's are greasable and made of steel. The Only issue I have had was it broke the Cheesy throttle linkage Plastic throttle slide part that is to increase the engine RPM's they have a serious flaw where the part has the 90 Degree portion for the Throttle cable to mount in them. It is an easy replacement and not expensive being $1.85 in price, but it can be a bit tricky to place it due to the Governor spring has to go through the plastic linkage part. Other than that, the Mower is pretty Much Bullet proof.

I recently picked up a 1993-Lawn-Boy Model 10515 Gold series mower for my son in law. It was advertised on our Local Craig's list for $80.00 or Best offer. I contacted the seller and asked him if he would be interested in my son in law's Dura-Force mower ? My son in law had bought the Dura-Force in a yard sale for $40.00 and it came to him with the famous Surge issue. I swapped the Problematic Dura-Force for this 10515 and the seller Included a Twelve string Folk Guitar that was made by Yamaha back in 1972. The Guitar has a value of $150.00 so my son in law came way out ahead on my Bartering skills. :bannana: It has the F-series engine as well with the three speed Transmission and aluminum deck. The Only difference I can see between his and mine is that he has his fuel Tank in the upper engine shroud, and his has the Walboro carburetor where mine has the Plastic Lawn-Boy made carburetor. These Two Durable model's make us a Lawn-Boy happy Family. Both Mower's will be used to finish this year's mowing season, Then stripped down and re-painted this winter so that when we come out with them next spring they both will look brand new and fresh again. Here is my 22241 and my son in law's 1993 Model 10515, I feel both os these would be hard to beat. Regards, Hammerdown

That 22241 is SWEET, Hammer - What a L-B Commercial should look like.
The Gold Series Duraforce models are great. I was fortunate to pick up a 10525 recently - a green monster - incredible power.

Hello LBO
I appreciate your Kind words. I am rather old school in my thoughts and belief's so the selection of an F-series engine was a no brainer to me as they were the most widley acceptable & durable engine design that Lawn-Boy ever produced. Pair that with an aluminum dack and belt driven Three speed Transmission, & it's a Hard combination Not to Like. I may be Chastixed for saying this But I am not a fan of the Dura-Force engine's due to their annoying issue of Surging, but to each his own here. I also do not like the Higher fuel consumption of the Dura-Force engines and feel that my F-series engine will do anything that I need it to do using much less Pre-Mix to get the job done. If I need more power I can just give the Governor control knob a few more click's, Increasing it's RPM's 50 RPM's per click in doing so but I have not encountered any mowing that it need's to be anything than at it's current factory settings. :fing32:

Love the 5233
I have 2 of them but the shrouds are both totalled on both of them. Would love to find a replacement shroud so I could restore one.

Hi
I agree, we need to see more picture's if you can't Show them, you don't own them ! :fing32: This is one I found in an old run down barn earlier this spring. It is a model 7251 made in 1962. As you cae see this mower was covered with hay chaff that blew off in my truck bed on the way home, making it a True Barn Find. It needed a new condenser to get it running but I Placed a new coil as well. My son in law is the owner of it as he wanted an Older brick-Top. He mow's Bi-weekly with it to keep it running well. Once it's engine is primed it start's on the first pull. It is Feather light with it's 19" Magnesium deck. It turn's lot's of head's when he mows with it, and some have actually stopped and asked him what year it is ? .We Plan on taking it down this winter to restore it with fresh paint, & New Decal's. To me, This is Classic Americana Lawn-Boy...

That is a beauty, Hammer. Although they look great restored, this one looks great the way it is - shows the history. On a recent addition of Gas Monkey, they restored an old Dodge pickup, but painted it with clear oat to show the patina, fade spots, and chips - at first I didn't understand why someone would paint it that way, but after seeing this fine piece of mower Americana...
