Lawn Boy 5232 model ID nameplate tag OMC Peterborough Canada

2055 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Y Block
The round aluminum nameplate ID tag has some of it's paint faded and worn off. For the restoration of this mower I want to get this tag looking as close to new as possible, so restoring or replacing.

Anyone have an OMC Peterborough 5232 tag they can spare?
Or can anyone provide a scan/photo of a 5232 Peterborough tag?
Has anyone made a decal?
Someone suggested an artist with a steady hand to repaint...anyone done this and if so how well did it turn out?

I sent a photo and requested a quote from a nameplate maker I saw on line... Cubbison, still waiting to hear if they can do it and if so how much.

Other ideas ?

HI! Send a PM to Lawnboy77. I know he did a nameplate for his 5232. Bill
Thanks, I need one for my Lamar 5232.

I don't know of any source for the Canadian version of the 1964 data plate decals, those are quite a bit different than the U.S. version. I don't have anymore of the U.S. versions of the 5232, the one for my mower came from MTF member "Cityboy". Y Block you might want to drop him a PM to see if he would sell you one if he has any left. You know I don't think he has any of the Lamar ones for 64, just the Galesburg ones.

If you try cleaning that one, you're going to lose some of the print on it. One thing that might work would be to take it to a graphic design shop and have them recreate it in the form of a decal. Then you can clean that one off nice and smooth, apply the decal and mow! :)
I just picked up a good used 5232 yesterday that's CDN and the only thing that is visible on the badge is the stamped 5232. Everything else has worn off. If I decide to restore mine, i'll likely go the decal route our get one etched at a graphics place.

Thanks to everyone that provided some feedback.

I will try to reach Cityboy. I have read that many graphics places can not do a decal on clear backing, so if anyone has had a graphic/sign shop that did a decal on clear and it turned out well please let me know. That shop would also likely have the correct shade of blue in their system so may be easier than trying to find a local shop and start from scratch.

Here's a sample of her work. These a printed on clear so you can just stick them on your metal tag. If the color is correct for you let me know and send me a pm or just put it here and let me know what it says. I can't read all of the writing and you want to get it correct.

I think those are the right style for mine except mine should say Lamar, MO. Can anyone confirm that? If so I'll PM you cityboy.
Here is my original 1964 OMC Peterborough nameplate tag with faded/missing paint on letters filled in. My goal is to get a decal or new nameplate made up. Note the tag has been enlarged 200% and made 4 steps darker to show outline of missing letters. I would hope there is enough original lettering left to allow a graphics person to find the correct font. I added hand-written notes to clarify things for a graphics person. The photos sent by cityboy(Thanks!) show the US decals and the blue color seems to be a good match, so that is a great head start.

You can have this one if you need it.

Do you have a Lamar tag? Does it look like the usual Galesburg one except for the name?
