Just picked up a 10525 for $150. I noticed when the guy shut it down he still held the blade bail a little bit. I didn't think a thing about it. Although half the paint is gone the mower ran great. I get home, cut the front lawn to check it out, let go of the bail and some major screeching going on. It does not do this when you hold the bail back a bit. Yes I called the guy back and maybe we can work something out but could this be an easy fix or is this toast? Thanks

Mine have screeched like that off and on between mowers and just a tad of lubrication took care of it.They still shut down fine.

Its recommended to release the handle gradually rather than drop dead stop to improve restarting.

My shut down procedure is to turn off the fuel valve, then undo the velcro strap holding the bail down and slowly release the bail until the engine dies. I don't like to allow the brake pad to contact the bottom of the flywheel until the engine has stopped turning so as not to push up on one side of the flywheel and put pressure on the top main bearing. Will this help with the longevity of the engine? I don't know as I always have done it this way.

Genius! Yes, I finally got around to making the repair. I had a brake in my parts bucket. The brake I took off just had a nub. You guys have really helped me out. I'll have more questions about my 10? (I lost count) LB's for sure. Someday I'll post pictures of the fleet!:trink40:
