Good morning,

Can anyone provide a pros/cons of these 2 machines?

I am aware of the K46 trans in the Deere, but what kind of trans does the Kubota have?

Both are offering ideal financing.

I mow 1 acre, with a couple of slopes, no more than 10 degrees.

Mowing bahia grass. Pulling a seeder/aerator/spreader once or twice a year, absolutely no ground engaging.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the Kubota (having never used one) but the X300 is a nice tractor when used for mowing and light towing. I only traded mine because I was going to be doing some heavier duty towing and moving snow on a pretty steep hill. As a mower it was great and had no issues with the cut after I found the right combo of deck and blades. You might want to go take each one for a test drive and see which one has the features that fit you best (seat, control layout, getting on and off, etc). I'm sure either one would work out fine.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

The Kubota dealer is about an hour away, I have 2 Deere dealers about 30 minutes away.

The Kubota is pricey. I can't understand why they would use a 1 cylinder Kohler. I would think 2 is better than one.

Tons of reviews out there for the Deere, a handful for the Kubota.

I need to test drive, hopefully this weekend.

I have an X300 and X500 couldn't be happier with both machines. The Kawasaki engine in the X300 is two cylinder 17 hp. It's smooth running and sips fuel and pretty quiet. They are good machines if used as intended. :thThumbsU

If I were ugly, I'd buy a good-lookin' tractor to ofset it. My ugly Cub ofsets my good lookin' appearance. :D

i wasnt aware that kubota made tractors as small as deeres. i would think that you get more tractor in the t1880 than anything in the 300 series

ya, I think that is categorized as one of their LTs. They also make GTs, w/diesel option. I don't think it compares 1:1 to like a JDx700 series though...

I tend to think that the Kubota GT is better compared to the Deere X540 or the Cub 3200 series.

A friend also asked me to consider the Cub Cadet 2542. How does this machine compare with the Deere and Kubota?
There is no comparison to the drivetrain of the CC 2542. The CC has a vertical, commercial duty Kohler with a shaft drive (no drive belt to ever replace!) powering a ground engaging, cast iron transaxle.

The Deere has a nice horizontal Kawasaki? engine with a belt drive to an aluminum, light duty lawn tractor transaxle.

But you got to consider the entire machine. CC encases that insanely great drivetrain in a cheaper (than Deere) plastic hood that has had a history of heat issues, then there's possible steering issues, and a little 2 gal fuel tank...so there are some tradeoffs...

..or 2 means twice as many parts to break and maintain.
Most semi engines are 6 (large) cylinders and can pull many times what a wimpy v8 pickup can pull. Although there are other factors. an inline 6 is a fairly naturally smooth design (versus the 1 vs 2 cylinder comparison) You also get more torque via larger cylinder displacement with fewer cylinders...

the new 2011 Cub Cadets are pretty much a totally different machine. On the 2010 models the hood issues have been addressed for the most part. The Cub Cadet is listed as a garden tractor where the other 2 are listed as lawn tractors... I haven't saw a Kubota LT in person, but I have saw their GTs a few years back and they did seem sturdy built. The x300 is a supreme LT also, I think it's one of the better LTs out there. But again, comparing the Cub GT to the JD LT is oranges and apples.

Apples to oranges. Comparing a 359 ci [Cummins] 6 cylinder Diesel with a 10 speed transmission to a 350 ci [or so] 8 cylinder gas with a 4 speed transmission?

The Kawasaki in the Deere will be much smoother with more torque than the Kohler in the Kubota. Plus the Kawasaki will last longer than the Kohler Courage.

If you really want to compare these two tractors, go to a Deere and Kubota dealer, talk to the sales people...Get to know what level of service they will do for you. Then test out each of the tractors. Study the controls, design, and smoothness...Get to know the tractors, and see what kind of service they will perform for you.
