My Kohler engine on my Cub Cadet 129 runs very hot. I rebuilt the engine two years ago and it has lots of power, but it runs very hot. I have the carb set where factory specs suggest, and it runs well, but carbons up and backfires when I shut it down. I have made some minor adjustments to the carb, but maybe I am just being too conservative. I am trying to find some good suggestions, anyone?

have you pulled the shrouds to make sure that no furry little critters have made youe engine into a new critter condo

No furry creatures inhabiting the shrouds. I did the top end overhaul myself, all timing marks are aligned per procedure. I am going to play with mixture later today. Make it richer. Thanks.

What makes you think its overheating?

pretty much all the old K's backfire when shutting down. That big flywheel keeps the engine turning after shutdown, and pulls raw gas into and out of the engine into the hot muffler and POW!!! Before shutoff, let it idel down for a min or so, then shut off. that normaly helps.

I went through the tuneup process based on Kohler's specs as best I could wihtout a tach. Seems like ti may have helped. I'll have to mow with it this week and see how it does. I will try the cool down recommendation. Thanks a bunch!

One other thing, how do you tell the difference between the Walbro and Kohler carbs on these?
