I added some high output LED lights to my 486.248462 snowblower setup on my Craftsman 917.273220 GT. when i run both the electric PTO and the LEDs I can measure the voltage on my battery dropping, and the amp meter on the dash drops to -3 amps.

My rectifier is currently the 15 amp model, but I see Kohler sells larger rectifiers for my CV25 engine. Can I just upgrade the rectifier to the larger version, or would I also need to get an appropriate stator?

Here's the rectifier Kohler Part # 24755144S Regulator/Rectifier 25 Amp - OPEengines.com

If you're just going to change the VR/Rec. you will smoke the stator. If you are buying the Stator and VR/Rec kit you'll be okay.

THIS: Kohler Part # 24755144S Regulator/Rectifier 25 Amp - as shown at OPEengines.com

converts the 'old style' to the 'new style'. You don't want that.

To make the 15A into a 25A, you need the bits & pieces in the 54 755 03-S kit. It costs more because it has both stator and rectifier/regulator. I think the 15A stator has less windings, but would likely NOT smoke the 25A rectifier/regulator, it would still just produce the 15A the stator windings can produce.

Kohler Rectifier Regulator 25 403 39-S goes for about $34 Target or Zorro

Kohler Stator Kit 280 85 02-S goes for $99 and up. OPEengines

You likely don't need all the little bits in the 'kit', just the two electrical parts and your old fasteners, etc.

Kit content, per OPEengines:
25 Amp Conversion Kit, 5475503-S / 54 755 03-S

Kit Content:
  • 2808502-S Stator Assembly 25 Amp
  • 2408618-S Screw, Hex Head
  • 2451812-S Lead
  • 2540339-S Regulator, Rectifier (20/30 Amp)
  • 2545407-S Tie, White 11"
  • 2551834-S Lead, 20 / 25 Amp B
  • M545030-S Screw, Thread Forming

Yeah, those are the two parts noted, part of the 'complete kit', but without all the doodads that you likely already have on hand.
I was trying to note that the regulator you referenced in the first post would not provide the amps(?) you were seeking. Incomplete system with small style stator, I think. Just trying to clarify.
