Killing mosquitoes

This is a project I did several years ago. I have been asked about it a few times and someone (wheel peel) suggested I should post this.

I bought a Stihl back pack sprayer to use for mosquitoes. I use a 50/50 mixture of permethrin and PBO. It is very effective in killing them off on my wooded property.

I realized right away that I was not up to walking around for an hour with this thing on my back. I knew I had to mount it on something and the 355D was the obvious choice. When I did this originally I had a 355D. I revamped it for the X748.

About 15 acres of my property is wooded and I ride down the trails spraying both sides. I also spray our garden, cabin, and house areas. I use 3 tanks, or 9 gallons of mixture. It takes about an hour including rinsing the sprayer out.

During wet years like this one my property was bordering on useless due to mosquitoes. Now we just have a few here and there.

That is great... Great use of the blower.

The two chemicals you mentioned, permethrin and PBO. Can you elaborate on those? Or link to the actual containers you buy?

It appears the permethrin is sold as a concentrate but it says it is 10% permethrin. Is this product then diluted per its directions - I am seeing 1 oz to 3 gallons of water.

I would assume the PBO has a similar packaging and recommended mix.

Then you combine both mixes at 50/50 for spraying? I little bit of help on you concoction because it appears you have it down to a science! I am going to visit my folks in Minnesota next week and maybe I will just carry the backpack blower around with me for the whole week!
