I will update this thread with the install as soon as they get here. Picked them up off ebay for 11 and shipping they are for race snowmobiles but should work just fine on the tractor hood.

Similiar to the ones used on the Wheel Horse tractors.
And exactly why can't Husqvarna/Sears include those as standard?

Brett, I'm interested to see how you install these. You realize you're making me spend money and I dont even have my tractor yet, lol!

Sorry Vegas :) I'm sick of the hood flopping around and it's worth 11 plus shipping to fix that! :)
Looks like a good idea to me. I was just thinking about what to get to stop my hood from jumping up and down.
It is kind of sad that this has to be done! You would think that they could secure a hood on these things a bit better!
This is a 30 lb. pull magnetic door latch I picked up for $5 at the local hardware.

I'm going to paint it but thought it would show better while it's still orange. :)

(And yes, the tractor needs a bath...)

Great idea Sock!
Thanks Brett. Now, if I could just get the hood open...
LOL! :fing32:
Has your hood started to scrape the paint off the side of the instrument panel yet?
Mine did, and won't anymore. Put 2 small plastic buttons, similiar to those on the top of the panel, on the side panel. They seem to also 'lock' the hood from unlatching.
The 'rubba' hooks will be added, shortly.
Thanks Brett. Now, if I could just get the hood open...
Holds that well, does it Sock?

I have to use both hands to pull it loose. On the DGS6500, the magnet fit in just about perfectly. I actually ground a little off the two metal contact bars to get it to the original clearance so the hood wasn't resting on just the magnet. I think I'm going to put a strip of heavy plastic tape on the inside of the hood to avoid a wear patch and make it a little easier to get open.

The 30# magnet may be a little overkill. :duh: Edit: Turns out I used a 50# magnet. See my last post. :hide:

Mine also has the wear points on the inside of the hood where it rested before. I hit those with a spray can before they can rust.

I bought the magnet back when this subject came up when Brett had just gotten his tractor. This thread pushed me into finally putting it on.

Just might have look for one of those magnets myself, maybe a 20-25#er. Good idea sock!!!
Glad you like it Glenn! :)

Just before I finish Hijacking Brett's thread, I put the tape on and now I can open it with one hand. I also have been mistaken about the 30#. The ones I found by the same company seem to be 50#.... Since I no longer have the packaging my withered old brain may have failed me. I apologize.

i must be missing something here. i have an 03 dgt 6000. my hood does not flop, bounce, jiggle, vibrate, osilate, open if i go to fast in reverse. why do you need hood straps. are the later tractors hoods that bad ?
Yes they are that bad!

Maybe if a guy could find a 30#, it would be about right!!!

I thought of using something like this Latch, but the the hidden magnetic latch is cool.
