A while back I picked up a craftsman "dozer blade" with the hopes of hooking it up to the front of my JD110. Long story short I gave up on the front but was able to rig it up on the back. It works well on gravel, but I'll have to practice slowly lifting the blade to stop from spinning the wheels when it bites in too deep. I picked up the winch at Canadian Tire for $30. I had the rest on hand.
Looks good. If the winch is just raising the blade too quickly put a block in the line. It will halve the lift speed. I do this on my quads snowplow and bucket.
She's a '67. I also have an '83 Argo 8X8 that I thought about putting the plow on. It's much stronger than the JD, but much harder to equip.
Nothing I work on is ever pretty!!! I heard we in BC are in for the toughest winter in 55 years. My only other purchase is weights and chains - then I'm ready. Let it snow please!raying:
I like your idea.
May I suggest drilling a hole in the cross plate on top of the blade and installing an eye to hook the cable to? I hate to imagine what would happen to your back if your clamped cable ever let go when the blade was up.
Also, you could remove the excess cable from the spool. The more cable there is the larger the diameter, increasing the speed. Not as dramatic a change as a two part line but it will also help with all the excess cable not tangling when you unspool too much.
Thanks for those ideas. I've got time before the snow flies so I'll look up to those upgrades. This tractor stuff is fun. I'm sure this won't be my only one. I just need to either build a 3 car garage or get rid of my other toys!
