John Deere LX277 opinions needed

Folks,
I just picked up a project tractor and I'm trying to decide what to do with it. It's a 2003 LX277 tractor with the 48C deck, Powerflow bagging system and a 10p cart thrown in with it, all for a whopping $300. I couldn't pass it up at that price. It has 425 hours on it and seems to run well. Steering is tight, deck engages fine, hydro is quiet, overall seems solid. Looks like it's spent it's life outdoors. Dealer maintained it's whole life. The bad part is the entire hood (upper, lower and bumper) is shot - cracked everywhere and pieces missing. If I scan the web for a replacement it looks like it would run more than $400. After that, I'd be into it for $700 and figure another $150 for blades, bearings and a tune-up. Is the tractor worth $850? Would I be better off parting it out? I don't mind flipping it or parting it out since it was soo cheap (at least I think it was).

Overall it's more tractor that I need. I currently use a 2005 L130 and that does everything I need, though I realize it's not at the same level as the LX277. Opinions please?

Thanks,
Dean

I had a lx277 it was a great mowing machine. I would love to have it back again. Around here they re still selling around.d the $2k+ mark in good condition with the bagger. I would fix it up if it were me. Even in present condition I think you still got a good deal at $300.
ok folks, it took me a bit longer, and a whole lot more $$$ than I thought, but I finished the resto on this (if fixing a 2003 model can be considered a resto...).

2003 Deere LX277 with 48c deck and Powerflo bagger, 420 hours on the clock. I love this thing! Sooo much better than the cheaper models at the big box stores. Even the dealer I used for a lot of the parts liked how it came out. Now I need to decide if I keep this one or my usual L130. If I sell this one could I get $1700 out of it? At that price I make about $300 on it for my time. Pictures attached but they don't do this thing justice. Comments?

What do you use for snow removal? Did you consider using one for summer duty and the other for winter? Looks too good to sell to me.
Keep the LX they were a very good quality machine you said it yourself so much better than the box store model's. BILL
For snow I use a brand-x 10hp 32" snowblower. Made the mistake of passing on a plow setup for the LX277, NOS and complete with wheel weights, chains and rear weight bracket for $300. I hope someone here got it, I've been kicking myself for weeks...
The only problem (if it can be called that) is this is just more tractor than I need. I have 4 right now (the LX277, an LA140 and two L130). My wife says it's a sickness. I just don't have the room to keep them all and I would rearely use the bagger. The deck on my main 130 is new and does a great job mulching and pulling the occasional aerator or cart. Yes, I know the trans is weak but I scored on that too - complete L130 with new trans (got the receipt) for $200. Does the 48c deck do a good job mulching?

Sell the two lightest machines and the walk behind blower to fund a blower for one of the two better machines. You'll never regret it after the first heavy snowfall. It's the same difference as throwing a bullet versus shooting one.

I can hook you up with the same setup (not NOS by VG used) for less than that. PM me if interested.

Keep the LX277 and sell the Box store tractors.Or sell one of the box store tractors. The LX277 will be around going strong when the other 2 are shot.

Keep the LX277, 17hp kawasaki is a great engine, the LX was the top of the line. I paid $4800 CDN when I ordered mine.

Now it gets even more interesting. I was at the dealer this morning - I have a great relationship with them, I wind up buying their trade-ins to work on (hobby, sickness, same thing according to my wife). Anyway, we got to talking about the LX277 again and he mentioned he had an NOS Freedom42 deck for it, would let me have it for $300. It looks like a great mulch deck, though I'm a bit worried about the timed blades. Is this a decent deck? Is it worth it?
