John Deere 955 with a 70A loader

I bent/ broke the 60 inch bucket by using clamp-on forks getting caught in the dirt heaving logs. I need to replace the pin-on style bucket. Does anyone know where I could find a pin-on style 60 inch wide bucket?

I been thinking on converting the loader and bucket to a quick attach style for a long time and purchasing quick attach forks. Would now be the time to do this this I need to replace the bucket anyway? I would need the following.
1. A 60 inch quick attach bucket for a 35 hp compact tractor.
2. The attachments needed to convert a John Deere 70A loader to quick attach.
Which would be the better way to go, pin-on style or quick attach? Cost to convert to quick attach? Is this something many of us could do?

Thanks, Pinetree

I usually see quick arms/pins for around $3-$400 new.

Then you have the job of getting it married up to your current loader. If you have the cutting and welding tools and skills, probably $30 worth of materials. Welding shop would be close to $200. At least you have your current bucket for a pattern, or even using a portion of it and just weld in the SSQA.
Decent forks around here are $750, buckets can be had cheaper if you can snag a used one.

I built my own loader and bucket. A fun project using card board templets for angles. Most of the material was left overs from the iron rack and a 1/8" piece of 4 x 4 sheet steel I found at the local iron supplier. I fashioned my own quick release bucket system with the angled top and a lower pin . If you look close in the picture it is visible. I will adapt the 55" bucket from the 4110 loader to the 955 for heavy applications keeping the stock 60" bucket original for snow removal if required. I also made forks for this attaching contact surfaces. I will eventually make a quick tach to bolt on to the 955 bucket so pins will connect it also. The shear and bend of the sheet stock was only $75.00. Welding the pieces formed the bucket adding a top reinforcement and a used cutting edge.

I just bought the quick hitch holders from a newer series loader for my 855 with 70a loader. They are 1” pins/holes instead of 3/4”. And just a little bit narrow. Going to spend this morning to see if I can get it to work width wise. I’ll let you know how it goes. Seems similar to the 45 loader I saw someone modify in another forum.

Does the quick hitch have a brand name ? A measurement between the arms would also be useful to see how much difference to make it useable.
It’s John Deere part number BW15939 for the ‘holder’ part number I bought. Looks like it will fit, might have to grind down the insides to make it fit width wise. Will need to sleeve from 1” down to 3/4”. And get a 3/4” long rod for the bottom.

Will this " holder " adapt to the stock 955 bucket ? I would be interested in a picture of the bucket mating to the holder if it eliminates pins to be removed for on & off bucket exchange.
I don't know what Deere gets for the holders but they look simple to duplicate with steel vs castings.
No, the holder makes the loader only quick hitch, not the bucket. Still need to pin the holder on or off to swap loader implements or you’ll have to modify the bucket to make it quick hitch. They make weld on options to make the bucket quick hitch.
Artillian also has a frame and John Deere Quick Attach Loader Plates to fab.

You don’t want to know the price of that jd qa5. The holders from Deere are significantly cheaper.
I will build my QA the same as the 4110 picture with the angle metal lower attachment using a slide in pin . For the hp involved it will never fail and easy to mount and switch. Besides the cost is the left over scrap MIG wire & gas. I love Deere tractors but attachments make me get out my Ellis bandsaw and Miller MIG.

Hi JakenBake, did you ever complete fabricating your own JDQA for your 855? I have a 955 and want to use the JD BW15939 holder kit and saw that you had to make some modifications... were you successful and what did you do? I saw above you mentioned what you thought was needed. Thanks, Peter

I converted mine to SSQA. I couldn’t locate the Deere holders for a reasonable price at the time and this has worked great.

Thanks. Yes the JD holders are expensive, I will take the plunge, just not sure if I should start with the JD holders for the 1024 tractor or for the 4110 (I have a 955) and which pair would require the least amount of modification.
