I am looking to get my hands on a zero turn mower and have found a JD 777 ztrak locally. I checked the model number and it's a 2004 with less than 900 hours according to the seller. Price is around $3k, which is about all I can squeeze out of the wife..

I am not used to zero turns, is this a decent price for this mower in good condition? I'll be using it to mow about 3 acres at my house, no commercial use. I'm pretty good with machinery so if it's a good machine it'll probably be with me until I die.

I just bought my first JD it's a 2015 Z655 with 105 hrs for $3,900, it was just serviced and also came with a spare set of blades. I only mow about 3/4 acre so I know it will outlast me.

$3K is a good price in good condition. They go quick around here at that price.

I just got back into town today and called the seller to find out that the machine sold on Thursday for $3000 to a guy who had driven over 6 hours one way to come and pick it up.

So I'm guessing that it was in fact a decent deal... :(

So my next best option is a 2014 JD 930M with 1700 hours for $3,900. I was hoping to keep the budget lower, but it seems like there's a lot of old crap out there in my price range.

Any advice on these machines? Good or bad...

Th Z900 series is JD’s top of the line commercial mid mount zero turn rider. The z930m is an excellent machine. The 7 Iron Pro deck on these machines cuts and disperses clippings wet or dry better than any machine I have ever used. As far as price goes, some of the best deals on these that I’ve seen are around $6k for machines with 500hrs or less.

Thanks for the reply. I actually got a mower yesterday. It seemed that the mowers I was seeing were pretty beat or had problems (except for that first JD that got away), so I broke down and started looking at new models. I didn't really want to spend that kind of money but with 0% financing even the wife said go for it.

I got a Kubota Z421 with the 60 inch deck & 24 hp Kawasaki. My local dealer had the Toro timecutter line which I wasn't very impressed with (C-channel frame, Chinese engines) and the Bobcats which I like as I have a Bobcat walk behind, but the Kubota seemed a better machine for the money spent. Dealer was a nice guy.
