I have a JD 318. I found that I could not control how low the mower deck goes. I found out that I needed the rod, pin, nut, pivot, retainer, compression spring, washer and nut on the rear-end area to maintain control of the desk height.

I ordered the parts and since JD has a two week wait for repairs at the local shop I decided to try it myself.

Is there an easy way to do this? I have a heck of a time trying to get the spring, washer and nut on the end of the pin. I can't hold the spring down long enough to get the washer and the nut on.

Any ideas?

I think if you have to you can take the 4 bolts out and remove the rockshaft assemby, put your parts in place and put the rockshaft back in.

I had to replace those parts you are talking about and remember removing the rockshaft, but at my age if it wasn't yesterday I don't remember exactly how I did it.
