John Deere 316 hour meter

I have a Deere 316 that when I went to start this spring wouldn't. I noticed that the hour meter had burned off one of the wires (i had a trickle charger attached to the battery). I took out the hour meter. It wouldn't start because no spark (cranked but wouldn't fire). I tested and replaced the ignition rotor as the ignition module tested ok. went to start no luck. question is, do i have to replace hour meter to have spark? thanks for any help
