I notice when I get into some tall grass my belt squeaks and slips on my JD 272 finish mower. I took off the top cover and the belt looks to be in good shape. Is there an adjustment to tighten the pulleys on this mower. I don't have an owners manual and the JD website is no help at all. I don't want to change the belt if it isn't necessary.

Thanks,
Tony Esposito

Have you tried belt dressing?

You can get it at most auto parts stores... it's a small aerosol can. The contents are kind of sticky. It will condition the belt (supposed to make it last longer) but it will also cause it to 'hold' better.

I will use belt dressing before I put the cover back on, but I would really like to know if those idler pulleys can be adjusted.

Thanks Ken, does anyone have a JD 272 mower so I can be sure it has a tension adjuster?
