I have a chance to buy a John Deere 185 with a bad hydro. Can anyone tell me which one it is? I have an extra 111h hydro. Would they be the same hydro?

IIRC the 185s came with either an Eaton or Sunstrand hydro. One has the drive pulley on the side and the other on the top but I don't remember which was which. You could probably get the 111 hydro to mount on the machine since I don't think they're different size-wise but getting the correct belt could be a real Easter egg hunt.

I'll second what Herd says. According to JDPARTS.com the 185 had an Eaton or Sunstrand transmission determined by a serial number break. The 111 had the Eaton trans which is the same part number as the Eaton trans in the 185.

why would it be hard to find a belt???it's either the eaton one or the other
I didn't know the hydro was the same on 111 and 185 when I posted; k91 did some fingerwork to figure that one out :fing32: It sounds like the OP should be able to do a swap and just use the Eaton belt.
