John Deere 165 Hydro - HELP!

947 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Tracs
I took my Peerless (Eaton) hydro out of my 165 to add a replacement fan (old one broke). Aside from riding in the back of my truck, nothing happened to the hydro.

Now, after the hydro is put back in. The hydro goes forward (in reverse position) and reverse (in forward position). I have a service manual and in the manual it says the reason for this is "This will only occur after transmission has been dissassembled". However, the hydro was never disassembled. It worked fine, just got hot b/c of the bad fan.

I don't know how it could be a belt issue since it can only go one direction based on the crankshaft rotation. The belt is installed the correctly.

PLEASE HELP!

Did you connect something back up improperly in the linkage between the hydro control handle and the lever on the trans?
Double check your belt ,,,that is the only thing I know that could cause that problem.
The linkage is correct. On that model the only way to hook it up is the bolt from the bottom of the hydro lever to the f/r lever from the hydro.

Belt is connected properly.

Should note. I have it jacked up and the wheels off. Does that matter? Seems like it shouldn't.

I bet your belt has a twist in it causing the pulley to spin the opposite way. Or maybe the linkage arm on the bottom of the trans spun all the way around.

There is a pin on the shaft and the only way it can bolt together is to have in the correct position.

See picture below. There is only 1 hole for the bolt. I uploaded a picture of my belt. It does not appear to be twisted.
