It seems my old PTO/Clutch switch is bad, so I went to our local dealer to get a new one. I was told they no longer sell the original switch, and they set me up with a new style(in pic). I ordered the necessary adapters but have not found any instructions to wire it up. Is there a good doc or instructions available? Honestly, I would like to replace the old switch with the same type but not finding anything available.

Hi and welcome!

Would you consider used? I own a ‘72 and and with these 50-year-old machines sometimes used parts are the best we can do. I took a quick look at ebay and this popped up:

I would, but in looking at the pic, I see the switch is very similar to the new one I bought. I will have to take a pic of the switch I have, but it only has 4 tabs

Buying used pto or ignition switches is a crap shoot. New ones are cheap. I got a new one on Amazon a little while ago for my 300. Wonder if that would work for you?

Tractordata usually has correct info, but the Deere parts pages also give serial number/year info.

Deere has separate sections/pages the 140, for before and after s/n 30000,

From Deere:
140 Hydrostatic Tractor
MP886 A.1

K301AS Kohler Engine
1968 Model (Serial No. -10,000)

K321AS Kohler Engine
1969 Model (Serial No. 10,001-22,400)
1970 Model (Serial No. 22,401-30,000)

140 HYDROSTATIC TRACTOR

14 HP K321AS KOHLER ENGINE
1971 MODEL (SERIAL NO. 30,001-38,000)
1972 MODEL (SERIAL NO. 38,001-46,500)
1973 MODEL (SERIAL NO. 46,501-56,500)
1974 MODEL (SERIAL NO. 56,501- )

For before 30000 the push pull switch Deere shows it has been substituted with:
Toggle/Rocker Switch - SWITCH, PTO
Part Number AM39489
Quantity Required 1

Elec. Connector Housing - CONN DELPHI 56 2W F BLK PLSTC
Part Number 57M8574
Quantity Required 1

Elec. Connector Housing - CONN DELPHI 56 2W F BLK PLSTC
Part Number 57M8575
Quantity Required 1

Presumably those are the 3 parts you were given.
