Would a JD 100 be worth purchasing? I've seen a lot about 110's but no 100's. Any thoughts?

The 100s are John Deeres lawn tractor the 110 is a garden tractor capable of ground engaging implements like a plow. The main problem with the 60,70 and 100 is that the ether Tecumseh or briggs motor is usually done in and parts are very hard to find. IIRC they have a 3/4 inch crank shaft the isn't around anymore so if you repower its almost impossible to use the pto so that you have a deck to mow with if you just want a stuff towing mule than you can repower and have a RF Deere cheaper than a 110.

Depends on what you're looking for!

As QAFarm stated, the engines can be a problem, but mostly with the 60's & 70's, 100's have an 8 HP Briggs.

Personally, I like the little guys, I can buy them cheaper than the bigger tractors (which I have anyway). Though not as "collectable" as the 110'/112's, the 60/70/100's are becoming more popular.

I picked up this very nice 100 recently for $325, it's in the restoration process! ~~ grnspot

If it runs and is complete, yes. If not, no.

Would it make a decent pulling tractor?

It would make a horrible pulling tractor. They are good lawn mowers and cart pullers, though.

Thanks. I have a good 420 that is my all around tractor, so I was only considering for a pulling tractor. The 100 looks complete but I don't think it runs. They are asking 125 so I thought it would be a cheap entry puller.

No, not a puller, the 100s are lawn tractors, not GTs like the 110s.

If you have a lawn tractor race in your area, it would be a perfect starting frame for one.

Actually I think the preferred JD tractor for lawn tractor racing is the STX, because of its low center of gravity unibody construction. :thThumbsU

Here is a thread of some JD racers http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=83754
