JD X350 vs Kubota T2290

Hi, I’m looking for advice on these two lawn tractors. I have a little over an acre to mow, hills, obstacles and rough-ish terrain as I live on a mountain. Here in Canada the JD runs about $5300 and the KB $6500. Both run Kawasaki engines, However the KB has a little mower power, a fabricated deck, what seems like a higher quality instrument panel with less plastic, all and all the quality seems superior.

My question relates more to the transaxle, the JD has the K46, I’ve read many forums on it and everyone seems to say it will burn up on hills. The KB has a Hydro-gear T3-HD, however I can’t find anything anywhere on this one. Is it any better than the K46? Is it worth paying the extra money for the KB?

My uses will be mowing and towing a cart, possible snow blower implement use in future if my old craftsman snow blower ever bites the dust.

Your recommendations are welcome!

Welcome to the site, I can’t help much with the comparison as I do not know these machines. I did notice in looking up the Kubota that it does have a 4 year power train warranty so I imagine they are confident the tranny will last.
The Kubota T2290 - tranny has similar torque to K46/k57- it has 3/4 inch axle. Honestly if you have hilly property and are looking for long term durability- I'd move up to next in line kubota with Hydro-Gear ® G730, or John Deere X380 ( K58) other option is for price of either of them new you can probably get late model ( lightly used) X500 series tractor that would last 30 years on your property

You might consider a bigger model but used. I moved to 3 acres that sounds a bit like yours and bought a new x350. It's a great mower but I was concerned about it pulling my trailer/cart up my hill so I sold it and bought a used x495 for about the same price. Both are great mowers but for pulling things the 495 is in a completely different category.

Not much difference between the K46 and the K58.

Hardly ever hear about a K58 going bad-- As for the difference of a K46 vs K58 ..Well if you dont consider-- 3/4 axle vs 1 inch axle, Powered metal gears vs Heat treated steel gears , max rear tire size of 20 inch on K46, vs 23 inch on K58 , 26 % more torque on K58 any difference,. I really cant help you!! To me that is a significant difference

I decided on the2020 Kubota T2290KW-42 over the JD. Frame appears to be stronger. Adjustable seat springs on the Kubota helps with rough terrain. My first Hydrostatic tranny. Seems like you sit much higher on this Kubota, visability for debris is great. Folding arm rests are nice. Fabricated Kubota deck is impressive. No grease zerks on the Kubota, sealed bearings?
