JD Ballast Box tool shelf

I have my ballast box filled with 50 pounds of gravel and about 450 pounds of sand. I didn't like carrying tools sitting on the sand, so I made this little shelf. Very rough carpentry and spray paint job in our balmy 36 degree February, but I like how it works:

It is made to just slide on over the top, and can be lifted up a few inches to get at the few things I have stored underneath on top of the sand (lifting strap, spare pins and bushings).

Very nice job! I would assume you have a pipe of some sort underneath to accommodate the ax, etc.? On my last ballast box, I added the PVC pipes for shovels etc. My " little helpers" filled the pipes up with the sand from the ballast box!:banghead3
Very nice. slkpk
Neat, I like the idea !
Nice job!

I like the idea, bit for me I always have somthing on the back such as a blade or plow so I need to come up with a different scheme. Still trying to come up ideas.

:dunno: I'm not sure why.. But this made my day.. Thats every little boys job.. To help dad out.. BTW.. a shop vac would clean out the tube.. If the pipe is smaller then your vac.. tape a smaller pipe to your hose.. :howdy:
