I have a 820 diesel and have a problem. It has always cranked very easy but would not crank yesterday. I checked and have fuel pumping to the pump but nothing to the injectors. Can I assume that the pump has gone bad or is there something else I need to check? Thanks in advance

It's possible the check valve in inj pump that fuel return line is attached to is clogged. Loosen the 2 screws on timing window on inj pump, pry gasket loose then see if you can get fuel to injectors.

Have you tried bleeding the high pressure side? Crack a line loose and crank it over?
Yes I have taken the injector line loose and do not get any fuel while turning over the engine.

Thanks. I will see if I can figure this out.

Is it not cranking now (as in, the motor doesn't rotate), or not starting after cranking the engine for a bit?
The engine turns over fine but will not crank or even try to crank.

I think what you're implying is engine will turn over but not start running IE "crank" due to lack of fuel to injectors. Isn't this correct? Does fuel control solenoid on IP have 12 volts when key is pushed into ign switch? That is if tractor has original key with a round shaft & ign switch hasn't been updated. I just remembered there's a strainer(area encircled in blue) in inj pump(see photo). Check valve I referred to if your tractor has this style IP is key 7.

I am not sure if it does or not. I am a newbe to working on diesels. I do not have the original switch. I changed it out a few months ago. What number is the fuel control solenoid? Can you please give me a link to the diagram you posted so I can see the part names?
You are correct on turning over but not running

Thanks so much for your help. It is much appreciated

Most here use "turn over" interchangeable with "crank", so that was causing confusion.

The diagram TxJim is posting are coming from JDparts.com, free to look up parts and drawings, but not tech manual.

Is the outlined area the Fuel control solenoid?

I have an 820 and they have an electronic selinoid on the injector pump. Mine has excessive wear in the ignition and occasionally fails to send 12v to the selinoid and it will not start. I always listen for the click at the IP when I push the key in, if I don't hear it, I gently jiggle (thats a technical term in my shop) the key until it clicks. Based on almost 50 yrs with this old tractor, if the engine turns over twice and its not running just stop, something is wrong.
