JD 425 tranny fill-Dip stick?

1564 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  mjac
I have drained the fluid and installed a fresh filter. The tranny fill hole under the seat has a screw in dip stick. My question is, when filling, do I check the fluid level with the dip stick screwed in or resting on the top of the fill hole threads?
Nope, no manual yet.......

Thanks

Thank you.
Actually, i think its resting on the top...at least i'm pretty sure that's what is says in the manual on my 455
Don't screw it in to check , the manual says - rest it on top of the tube ...
I used to own a 445 , same Transaxle ...

Hi,
I am new but own a 425 and just looked up in the owners manual...it says in CAPS do not screw it in...let it rest on the top of the fill tube to check the level.
Ok, gotcha. I'll go with the consensus and check the fluid level with the dip stick resting on the top of the fill tube.
Thanks much.
You can download your manual from JD's web site ... By the way

You can? All I've been able to do is view JD manuals not download. Is there a
link I'm missing?

Please point me in the right direction to do this. I have been able to download pfd Maintenance Reminder Sheets with part numbers and such but no manuals.
On my 1997 425 I let the dipstick rest on top per the manual. slkpk

Hi mjac and Grateful11 ,

Here is the directions I used and stumbled upon ...

1.) Go to JD's Homepage ...
2.) At the bottom of the page go to (About Our Site) ...
3.) Scroll down to (Residential Products & Equipment) and go to Operator's
Manuals ...
4.) Go to (Search For Operator's Manuals) ...
5.) Put in 425 , hit search ...
6.) They do say they have a limited availability of older models , but there is
a manual for the Serial # 070001- ...
