Found a guy who has a 420 sitting on his property that has a mower deck and the JD loader. Guy pulled the motor cause it needed a starter but found out it was $300 to replace it. The guy has had it sitting there for quite a few yrs and has done nothing with it, he has a ton of projects half started and various other things scattered through out his place. I talked to him and he said he would sell it and asked what I would offer for it. He will put it back together but it still will need a starter. So my question is what is it worth as it sits?

Well the loader in decent shape is going to bring about 1500 the 420 with an engine you can't verify runs about 1000 to 1250 if the engine runs add about 500 to 1000.
I agree with Tim on the tractor price.... I think with the bad starter you would be good around $1,000-1,100....

The loader if it is complete with parking stands and pump normally runs ~$2,500.... I would call that the average selling price. I have see some 44's sell for over $3,000.

The model 44 loader on a 420 has a specific subframe so it is imperative that everything related to the subframe comes with the tractor if you buy the loader.

You can get a starter from boomers_influence (I think he has NOS and good used ones).

Get us some pictures and we can get you a little closer in price.

I got this today, not sure of the condition of other stuff but he says he has everything it came with. He said he would put it all back together if I wanted to show it was complete. I was thinking $1800 was fair being I can't see it run or anything on it operate.

Not very much. Better off loading it on the trailer and haul it up here to MN. I will take it off your hands.

$1000 if you see all the parts is fair. It may be worth more but when I see things like the homemade grill I think to myself there may be a whole lot of neglected or poor fixes to deal with. I would go to $1500 if I felt better about the tractor after seeing and talking to the seller.

I've paid 1500-2800 for 420 w loaders non running. Nit being able to test anything is a big negative. I'd start at 1k and keep rolling off Benjamin's until I got a deal or full working loader price. Assuming it look good.

I've seen listed recently a nice working 420 for $4000 and a working loader for $2200 all on Craigslist but different areas. I guess I need to decide how much I want to spend now or down the road on a fixer upper.
