Yes, Mow with it in the lock down position, this will allow for the deck to float, should the deck wheels ride on something high. To check it out,put the lever in the lock down position and then get a helper and each bend over and lift up the mower deck from each side and you will see that it floats.

The real help in using the lift in the lock down position is when you are using a front blade for snow plowing.
For instance, when you are plowing into a snow bank and the blade rises up the blade will not ride all the way up and lock in the up lift position and break something.

By leaving the blade in the lock down postion, it allows it to float.

Less likely to break something that way under the tractor.

Greetings fellow 240 owner.:Welcome1:

Check to be sure your deck is level, set deck wheels according to the sticker on the left side of the deck.

Check your belts, air filters, plug and rear axel fluid. Keep clean oil, fuel and filters in/on it and it will treat you well.

Not much to them just very dependible basic machines.

Here is some info on your machine but don't take it as the gospel because as others have pointed out and I can testify to there is incorrect data in some areas.

For instance your transaxel is a tuff torq E0905 and holds 1 gal of fluid when completely drained. Some were shipped with heavy gear oil 80-90wt, Mine uses the thinner Hygard low vis.

Accurite data here.

Hope this helps.

I hate to necro thread this but the 6 speed tuff torq (the original dry brake version) in my old 240 went out and I managed to snag a replacement wet brake style which came dry. The problem I am having is the maintenance manual has some conflicting info in it. In one section it states use GL5 80W90 and in another it states refill the case with low-vis Hygrad (J20D). Anyone have any idea which is the correct fluid for the gear tranny?
