My JD 2020 is overheating. The radiator is new, it's full , I've flushed the block and taken out the thermostat. I'm thinking bad water pump. Does that sound right or am I missing something ? Thanks for the input, Guys.
Not much to fail in a water pump. The only problems there could be the impeller fins rusting away or failing altogether which is somewhat rare.
First I would check the head gasket by slipping a balloon over the filler neck on the radiator when it's cold and run it for a few minutes. If it fills up with air you have a combustion leak.
Is the engine gas or diesel? How long does it take to overheat? Does the engine have good power? What are you doing when it overheats? As stated before, water pump is rarely cause of overheating, but possible. I have seen impellers break or come loose from the shaft a couple of times over the years. Watch the lower radiator hose when running wide open throttle. It could be sucking shut.
