I am rebuilding my 5 speed on the JD 170 and will put the Bentonite grease back in. I hoped to get by with one 32 oz tube but then I read somehwere that I need two. Anybody know? I hate to have to buy two of these at $18 per tube plus shipping. I have looked long and hard for a cheaper substitue and have not come up with anything.

Thanks

I don't know what the spec says but given the effort you'll have into this and the scarcity of good replacement transaxles (unless you want to spend $600+ on a reman) I think I'd spend the extra $18. The rest of the machine is pretty much bulletproof so that's cheap insurance. I do not know of any substitute either.
