It is not a bad tractor and should perform well if it was well maintained and cared for. I would not recommend it for anything over one acre. What I have seen as the weak areas is decks, deck drive, steering and vary-speed transmissions. Troy-Bilt is manufactured by MTD and are low cost tractors. New they sell for around $1300 and depreciate rapidly. If it is more than two years old I would try to get it for less and of course it should be clean with no problems and regular maintenance.

Good luck

Well if the Troy-Bilt was Made Before 2001 Then it Might Be a different story You didn’t say the Year Prior to 2002 Troy-Bilt was Made By Troy-Bilt But they were Based On the Bolens Tractor Then I would say You can’t go wrong with One But even the MTD Made Troy-Bilts are Not that Bad My Neighbor Has One That’s basically Like sort of what Stan Is saying It has a Vari-Speed trans But His Is still going strong and it’s a 2003 Model and there Back Yard is Nothing But Hill I do the Maintenance On it for Him It’s a Nice Little Lawn Tractor and It Handles His 3/4acre Just Fine as Long as there Maintained I find them to be a decent Product Made By MTD. There Basically One step down from Cub Cadet since MTD Got ride of the White Outdoor Line:thThumbsU
