On the big terminals it dosn't matter, it's just a big switch. Some times, the manufactuer will connect things to the "battery" side though.
is it possible to hook up solenoid wrong?
Does it matter which side of the starter solenoid I hook up the battery and which side I hook up the wire to the starter? I removed an old solenoid and replaced it but am unsure if it matters which post I hook the battery and starter wires to.
Also can you tell me which magneto I need for my 1994 Briggs 12.5 engine? I have my burnt out one right here and the number on it is....9432P. Jim

thanks Larry. I'm searching on ebay for a magneto and I think I have it narrowed down to which magneto I need by looking at what numbers are posted on ones that are for sale.

Welcome to MTF. I just read your post in the intro section. Do you happen to know the model # of the tractor? A sticker with that information could be under the hood, under the seat and sometimes on the "rear" of the tractor. With a model # we can pull up parts schematics along with wiring diagrams etc.
For the Briggs you should be able to enter the model/type/code numbers on the Briggs site and pull up a parts list.

thanks Bush Bone Yard, I have scoured the net for anything and everything about my mower. I've seen the manuals, and the wiring diagrams etc.
I messed the whole wiring harness and wiring up, and just dug myself deeper with every action I took. So now my game plan is to do a simple 4 wire push button ignition.
I'll be starting from scratch tomorrow (my last vacation day from work) and rigging up a push button and toggle switch for starting and stopping the engine.
I also burned out my magneto so I need to either find one locally (hopefully) or else order one online. Wish me luck! I love this new "toy" and it's kept me busy all weekend. Thanks again. Jim

Go to the auto parts store and ask for a old Ford solenoid. Thats the best...
