I am looking through the local auctions and Craigslist ads for a brush hog for next year. I ran across a John Deere 509 rotary cutter. I am not familiar with that particular cutter. Just curious to if anyone ever used that particular model or knows much about it.:thanku:

I bought a JD 509 brush mower last year on Craiglist for $625. They are older models but at the time of production were the heaviest duty JD offered (at least that's what I was told when researching the one I bought). I am running mine with a JD 955 and it handles it well (5' cut width). The 609 and 709 models were made for a longer period of time than the 509, I suppose the narrower width of the 509 was replaced with a lighter duty versions (speculation on my part). I love mine, has a slip clutch, and appears to be made extremely solid. Good luck with yours if you buy it!
