Someone on these forums helped me find a manual not to long ago and it was very close to my Murray tractor, however I ordered a main drive belt and it's to short so I need your help once again finding the correct manual so I know what belt size I need. No model number on the tractor at all.

Tractor info:
The tractor is a Murray Select if I could get every model number for 1997-98 with a 3 blade deck, automatic that would help!

Engine info:
Make Briggs & Stratton 18.5 hp Twin.
Model 42A707
Type 2653-E1
Code 9710145A (1997)

Current belt size thats wrong:
37X106 (too short)

The Current (wrong) manual I have: 465600x8A

something i'm looking for on page 31:

Photo of idler/V-idler pulleys

Photo of tractor

If you need any more photos to help narrow the model down just ask and i'll post them.

I appreciate all the help!

Is that one in your photo supposed to be a 97-98? I would think more like a 2001-02, maybe. Maybe Mistavp05 could get the model # off his, which looks a lot like that one if I'm not mistaken.

Ya the code on the engine says (Code 9710145A) first 2 digits are the year.

Hmmm, ok then. Well, here is a 98 Gt I have had photo's of here, so I wasn't expecting that nose.

Sorry, I got a PM from BBY and forgot to go back and post the photo of the 98 Green Machine. But you can see a very large difference in nose pieces. I would suggest the engine shroud may not be original to the rider body.

Unless, they had a different body for the Wide Body Select or what have ya, like they did with the Ultra, but even then the body was more or less the same if I remember. BBY will know this, he eats Murray for breakfast. He sleeps with a Murray brochure. I don't claim total expertness. Just my experience with ones I have bought and ID'd the same way you did - engine code.

Also, I included the red Autodrive I got early in the Spring. It is labeled with DOM label as a 97. Lucky for me it had that label because the Shroud was missing and I had to buy another one. But it was a 97 code also.

Thanks for the info! and very aerodynamic tractors! Ya the label was ripped off so it makes my job a lot harder to find parts. Of course the belt doesn't match and I probably wasted $20.00 I may end up taking the belt to a tractor shop to match it. But hopefully like you said BBY can help me he did once before.

That is deffinatly a 1997 or newer to like 2004 Because mine is (1997) the same but it is a gear drive not hydro. Belts are most likely different from mine.

Possibly this one? Click on motion drive.

Here is a list of late model Murray diagrams. Your machine will start with a "46". By process of elimination you should find what you need. The models are also dated.

I would buy a belt locally if possibe [small engine shop, Napa etc.]. As long as you bring it back in the condition you bought it, most guys have no problem taking it back if it's wrong. If you still have the original belt, I would bring that with me to match it up.

So that parts diagram clearly says it is a 97.........what the 2 I have that is 97 and 98 have such different body styles. What gives there, do ya think?

In 1997 there was an overlap with the body styles you are thinking of, the squared off front end and the "bug eye" one like I have. They actually used the "bug eye" one up until I think 2000. The "squared off" front end they used from 1997 until almost 2004. Just like everything else Murray did, it gets confusing when you try to figure some stuff out.

So after the process of elimination (Murray made a ton of versions in 97-98) I have narrowed my model down to the following:

46560x192A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46560x92A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46562x8A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46567x30A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46567x6A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46567x6B belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46568A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46568x6A belt 037X61AMA mower belt 037X89A
46569x71A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46569x92A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46569x9A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46570x6A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46570x71A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46570x8A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA
46573x92A belt 037X61MA mower belt 037X89MA

Anyone know the difference between AMA and MA mean at the end of each belt model number?

Lastly does anyone of any of these manuals? I tried the Murray site and no results.

You can narrow the list down a little more. For example these three models

46570x6A
46570x71A
46570X8A

Are the exact same machine. The numbers after the X being different just signifies where the tractor was sold. There are actually only 7 different models you have listed there. For our purpose now, ignore the x?? number.

As for the MA, I think that is a vendor inventory abbreviation for Murray.

I'll double check my manuals.

Okay great news! So that leaves me with:
46560x192A
46562x8A
46567x30A
46568A
46569x71A
46570x6A
46573x92A

I'll probably never narrow it down beyond that point because the changes are so subtle but if anyone has any one of these manuals that would help me out greatly. I'm working of a 2003 manual and it has some fairly different changes like the drive belt/pullys.

Thanks again BBY I wouldn't have a tractor right now without your help!
