Impressed with the new line of Cubs

I hav'nt had a chance to post in here all summer. With all the rain we have had in VA.,the shop has stayed backed up 3-4 weeks and I've been blessed with all the overtime I could stand.
I just really wanted to take a minute and say how impressed I am with (almost) everything Cub Cadet has done in retooling their line. From the Kawasaki on the Ltx series to adding a fabricated deck on the GT2000 series.
As a tech, the junk that Cub made from approx 2001-2008 really had me disgusted. It was the biggest pile of junk anyone could make. But lately they are making a comeback. We were a Deere dealer for 26 years until they stripped us for being "too small of a dealership".It does my heart good to see Cubs filling up the landscape in what was once Deere country.

That move to the Kawasaki is going to do wonders for their LT reputation, isn't it? It was truly a smart move on Cub's part.

How are the new 2000 Series holding up?
I would say that I agree with your view of the current models. They did a nice job of improving the 2000 series in almost everything that needed attention. The 2000’s are real HD tractors, and in my opinion the base 2000 with a 50” deck is the best value around – and should be simple to maintain and reliable.

However, there is a downside. The 2000’s were introduced with so few attachments that it was hard to call them Garden Tractors (question for Sarge: what is the current implement situation?), and the line-up has been trimmed sharply. Despite the gussying-up of the more expensive versions, they don’t offer a line up to compete with Deere on the upper end anymore – or Simplicity, who does pretty much match Deere blow for blow.

Did Cub make the right decision to exit some segments? Beat’s me, but it will be interesting to see how the next couple of years shake out.

No ground engaging equipment offered? Hard to call it a "garden tractor"

I'm no sargeant but...
To this day there is still no 3pt hitch available, not even a sleeve hitch. However, Cub does make a tiller for them.

Cub is taking a step in the right direction by using Kawasaki engines in their tractors. There is still room for improvement though...like a better engineered steering system and that wiggly plastic dash tower.

I have not yet got a bran new Cub Cadet. But I also have not had one to wear out so bad as to claim that the Kohler Command Series engines are a total loss. I'm sticking with my old iron IH Cub Cadet which was sold for nearly a dollar a pound back 46 years ago.

In the Cub Cadet dealership often. The new garden tractors have the cast iron rear transmission, cast iron front axel, a heavy duty steering arm and wheel spindles. Cant forget the fine splined rear axels too!

The IH Cub Cadet narrow frame garden tractors can be matched against any garden tractor JD has ever had. The IH Cub Cadet transmission is a top of the food chain when it comes to who made the BEST. One big reason Cub Cadet quit putting aluminum transmissions in their Super models is because those will not handle the work load a IH Cub Cadet narrow frame tractor transmission can do. That goes for the MTD 990's as well. IH Cub Cadet were one of, who made a seriously tuff garden tractor.

JD had not done good in these parts as a dealership selling garden and lawn tractors. This side of the country has always been White, Yellow, and Blue. I have to agree, Cub Cadet is staring a good come back. I'm seeing more Cub Cadet than I ever have! I also believe that the GT will make a great come back over the SCUT's due to the ever failing economy, and that people are realizing the capiblities of the garden tractor in a new generation where you don't throw away such equipment as did our folks back in the 50's to 80's .

JD's are a great product line. I don't mean to be so bias, truth is told.:fing32:

i have to tell you i looked back and forth at JD and CC and i kept coming back to JDs. the CCs were just so much cheaper when you started looking at the details. i remember looking under the hood at the steering system, its was so flimsy and they all had rust on them at the dealership, the steering post that is, lots of play as well. also the deck lift came right through the fender, ive never liked that. it was things like that made me pick a John Deere in the end.
man, there were Saturdays when id go to the JD dealership and then to a CC dealership and just looked them both over, looking underneath, under the hood, sitting on them, etc... they must have thought i was crazy!

What is your thoughts on the Tank?I have been thinking of getting one next year. The Tank with the steering wheel. If things come together it will be used commercial.I would love to stay with my local Cub dealer, they have treated me great

The Cub Cadet 3000's imo was a good machine and the last true garden tractor.

I have always had great luck with CC.The mtd rep has always hurt them.

What happened with the partnership with yanmar? The Cub Yanmar was my dream machine.

Sorry i went off subject:dunno:

Currently there is No tiller either for the Cub Cadet 2000 series Cub Tells Dealers if a 2000 series owner wants a Tiller to see Bercomac and supposedly for the 2014 Model Year Cub is Not Going to Market the 2000 series as a Garden tractor. Since the Yanmar deal went south MTD Has actually Lost a lot of revenue They Have Lately Been Laying off a Lot Of Cub Cadet territory Reps which Is Not a Good sign at all I Really Like the 2000 series But I couldn't Justify Buying One for the Lack Of a electric Lift sleeve Hitch and Tiller. It's a Big reason My wife Has Held On to Her 2002 Cub Cadet 2206 and she has Been Looking at a Simplicity Conquest or Prestige Possibly to replace it Because Cub Has Really dropped the Ball On the 2000 series. When the 2000 series was Introduced They showed a Mock Up of a 2000 series at the dealer show with a electric Lift sleeve Hitch and 30inch Hydraulic tiller But they Never did Put those Items Into Production for the 2000 series I'm Really Hoping By the Layoffs there Just reorganizing and this Is Not the Beginning of the end Of the Cub Cadet Line of Garden tractors Really In the US currently there are Only 4 true Garden tractor Manufactures Left Husqvarna, Ingersoll, John Deere & Simplicity and John Deere really Cut some corners on it's Flagship Super Garden tractor the X700 Signature series:thThumbsU

Interesting. I always assumed cub made a tiller for their 2000 series after watching this video:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the cub cadet built hydraulic tiller on a 2000 series tractor??
To the original poster--just out of curiosity--what part of Virginia are you from?

Yes that is a tiller In the Video But it Never went Into Production for sale to the Public It a 30inch Hydraulic tiller with electric Lift sleeve Hitch from a 2500 series which was Made to work On the 2000 series for that commercial and they even showed the set Up at the Dealers show when the 2000 series was Introduced Basically if You Modify the electric Lift sleeve Hitch Mounting Brackets to clear transmission fill tube from a 2500 series or Older 2000 series The 30inch Hydraulic tiller will work On the Current 2000 series But MTD Never did that for some strange reason.:thThumbsU

Strange indeed.

:thanku: sergeant
Wife was all set to trade In Her 2206 for a GTX2100 Until she found Out No tiller or sleeve Hitch and she is Very particular with Her Tractor she wants Nothing Modified to fit so as Of right Now she still has the 2206 and the 2206 is still running strong she Just wanted to Upgrade. In Her Mind No new Hydraulic tiller from Cub No New tractor for Her:thThumbsU

Strange, I wonder if MTD has cut off Cub Cadet and is leaving them to die. I recently noticed 3 things which I found strange.
1st, Cub Cadet is not mentioned or listed as an MTD company on the MTD website. 2nd, the oposite is true on the Cub Cadet website, no mention of MTD and no crabgrass trademark anywhere to be found. 3rd, while shopping HD last week I found myself looking at a Cub Cadet tractor, you guessed it, no mention of MTD in their literature and no crabgrass trademark label anywhere to be found. Just a stylealized C, presumably for Cub Cadet, where the old MTD Crabgrass label would be.

I agree with your wife. The tractor in your video looks like what I want, but I don't need a mower deck, I would only want the PTO , blade, and tiller. I would have wasted my time even looking at a Cub.:thanku:

I think the new Cub Cadets are very nice too and a good bang for the buck.

MTD Realized several Years ago actually In the Mid 2000 to separate there Name from the Cub Cadet Brand at Least In North America(In the 1990's they had though Cub Cadet had Been established well enough Under them since 1981 That they could risk By MTD Next to the Cub Cadet Name. That was Dropped quickly to Just the sprigs of Grass. They Have also done the same with Troy-Bilt In recent Years But You will still find MTD In the small Print On certain Cub Cadet Manuals The dropping Of the Partnership by Yanmar actually Hurt MTD Financially I Have a feeling In the Next Few Years MTD will finally drop There Yardman, Yard Machine & Bolens Labels and Just concentrate on Troy-Bilt and Cub Cadet. See the Sears deal fell thru as well Sears decided to Go with Simplicity for there Premium Line But that Bit Sears In the Butt Because Once Simplicity Had a New President who had Been a Simplicity engineer He Decided to drop there deal with Sears and Had the remaining Sears CTX Models relabeled as Allis-Chalmers and sent to Simplicity Dealer's for sale. MTD Being a Private Company sometimes Get's You Into a Cash Flow Problem When deals fall thru. Home depot really Killed Murray when they Dropped Murray for there Scotts Tractors. Murray spent a lot on re-tooling for the Scotts Tractors and it left them in a Financial bind Which they Never recovered from. I think Part Of MTDS Problem was they didn't update There 2500 and 3000 series In the 2000's Because the 3000 series was Made to compete against the JD 425 thru 455 and the Simplicity Legacy. My Personal view Is Had they Updated there Cub Series earlier they Might still have a strong fielding In the Lawn & Garden tractor Market:thThumbsU

If You want a shaft driven Lawn tractor I would agree with You. But as a Garden tractor I would disagree:thThumbsU

I love my GT2000 but what I hate is the deck sizes. They are 42,50,54. I miss the 46 inch I had on my old 2165.I didn't want to pay extra for the tractor just to get a bigger deck. A 42 is kind of small and a 50 is to big for what I need. but tractor wise I enjoy it. I did get the big snow blower for it but didn't get to use it yet. I did notice the chute has no cable for the direction for the top.
