My 265 stopped mid mow last week. I discovered that I didn't have a spark once I towed it back to the shed. I replaced the spark ignighter, and it fired right up. Today I started mowing against, and this time, whenever the mower was going up a steep incline it would cut off. If I moved the mower to level ground, it would restart. It did this several times, and every time was the same. On an incline, it wouldn't start, on level ground, it would start. I thought maybe it was low on oil, but that was not the case. It is also full of fuel, so that's not it. Does anyone know what I can check, or where to start to find out the cause of the problem?

Those intermittent problems are always a challenge. The first thing I would try to nail down ,is if the cause is fuel or electrical. The sound of the engine when it is dying helps. If it acts like the key was shut off, I would lean toward electrical. If it sputters, I might consider fuel. Older machines are what I own. Wires hanging from safety switches or insulation worn through being pinched by a shifting battery, shorting on the frame could ground out your ignition. Loose connectors too. If it's the fuel thing, it could be from water in the tank shifting to the pickup tube. Hope it reveals it's secret soon. Marv.

When it stopped last week, was it in the going up a hill mode? Just curious to see if the ignitor was truly a solution or just an apparent solution.

It would seem that fuel issues would lend themselves to slope problems rather than electrical issues.
