You going to make a real racing tractor, or just swap pulleys until you hurt yourself? Be safe and do it right if you gotta do it.

I have 4 lawn tractors sitting around right now and I'm going to make a FAST lawn mower. Will try to hit 60
lawn mowers do not have brakes good enuf to stop ur mower if it is doin 15 MPH.. so ur ridin a death trap.. now a mower tire is only rated to spin at 10 MPH..

shall we write ur 'OBIT' now..

I've often thought about using a sears Hi/low trans. if they get a little worn, you can shift them moving ( Ive never done it with my Suburban, it's practically B/N ).. So with some 600W oil like Model A's used, it should slow a good one down enough to shift without grinding. The Model A used straight cut gears also and the 600W oil was used to slow them down to shift... Brakes could be added with some proper rims and tires. just a little welding on the axle tube... Oh yes with the right 'gearing' it could be FAST since with shifting, it could be over geared and still have power due to shifting.. The only setback is, if it was geared high enough to need the low range then the next shift after 3 low would be 2 hi, and that would mean a no hands shift.. oh how I have thought about it too much

The tranny i'll be using can shift up or down while driving. How fast would a pulley swap make it go?
again I advise not to do this... the sterrin on a mower is a lot weaker than one on a vehicle.. a mower was made to do 8-9 MPH at the top..

we had a local kid do this to a mower.. he wound up breakin both legs & an arm.. plus he had a lotta hide missin too..

When I mean 60, I mean kilometers per hour. I'm CANADIAN.
I wouldn't want to go any faster than 15 mph on one.. That's more than double the top speed from the factory. Even at that speed you'll be fighting to keep it in a straight line.

Real racing mowers have upgraded steering parts, wider axles, and a lowered center of gravity to safely go 35 or 40 mph. At that point they are more or less a go cart chassis with a lawn mower hood and fenders.

Whatever you do, I suggest wearing a helmet.

There are actual sanctioned mower racing groups, they use a lot of cart technology in their racers and a lot of safety equipment. It's short tracks usually so speeds aren't that high. Looks like fun actually but it would kill my back... I'm close enough to living in a wheelchair as is. I don't need to push it.

Just throwing a pulley on there to "go fast" is not very bright.
