Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew how I could identify the year my mower was made by the serial number. I didn't get the owner's manual from the guy I bought the mower from. Part of the silver ID tag is damaged on the rear of the mower, but I think I can make out the missing 2 numbers.
My mower is an SX95 12.5hp Kawasaki 38" cut rear engine model.
It came with the twin bagger attachment, but it's missing the deck belt cover that has the 38" decal that goes under your left foot as you ride it and it's missing the grade/anti scalp wheel just behind it.
Thanks,
Erich

There is not a code built into JD Serial Numbers to determine the year of manufacture. The parts manuals list the year and serial number range for each year the model, for which the parts manual covers, was manufactured. Here's the listing for the SX95:

1991 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M00SRXB010001-025000
1992 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M00SRXB025001-045000
1993 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M00SRXB045001-055000
1994 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M00SRXB055001-075000

Thanks,
The listing of the serial numbers from the parts manual in your last post was for the srx95
I have an SX95.
I think they both have the same engine and are essentially the same mower with an added letter aren't they?
Thanks
Erich

Sorry about that. I get in a hurry sometimes. Here's the information that applies to the SX95:

1987 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M0SX95X420001-475000
1988 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M0SX95X475001-595000
1989 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M0SX95X595001-750000
1990 MODEL - SERIAL NO. M0SX95X010001-100000

Thanks stash,
By looking at my serial number on the back of my mower:
MOSX95X4_5561 should mean my sx95 is an 87 or 88 depending on whether the missing number is a 4 or a 7. There is a small amount of number left at the top where this number should be and I think it is a 4 or a 7.
Great!
Thanks again,
Erich
