Hi everyone....Whether all of you, or some of you agree with my purchase or not, I can finally say, I have purchased my lawn tractor. I just got back after spending 2 hours at the dealer.

Before the details I will tell you that I did purchase the John Deere X300 with 42" mulching deck!!

I spent 2-hours at the John Deere dealer. The company that owns the store, has 11 locations within a 40 mile radius, so, instead of going to the John Deere dealer who got under my skin a few weeks ago about 3-miles from my home, I went to one of their other locations after a friend of mine suggested this particular person at this other location.

This gentleman was fantastic. He explained everything in detail, answered every question I had, did not try to up sell me, put into perspective my decision of either getting an LA Series or the X300. I was totally impressed, and would have probably given him the business even if I were leaning toward another brand, such as the Simplicity Regent that I was also considering. This person mark, never knocked the LA series, but explained to me, what they were intended for, the type of lawn, terrain, etc. Then, he provided information on the X300. After he answered my questions, he explained everything function on both series of tractors, gave me the keys, and told me to have fun, drive them around, test cutting some grass, then decide. He then left me alone to play for about 30-minutes. So, I was able to judge everything for myself. I tried the X300 and the LA-145 and LA-165. After sitting, starting, listening, and driving both tractors, the X300 felt like it was meant for me. And, that KAW motor was so quiet and smooth compared to the Briggs in the LA models.

So, I will be getting the X300 with 42" mulching deck. Got a good price of $2825 plus tax, free delivery and free at home 10-hour break-in service visit. Couple that with the 12-month no payment, no interest, and I think I did OK.

I was told that I have 30-days to return the mower for a full refund if I am not happy, or if the mulching deck doesn't perform to my expectations, I can return the tractor for another one with the regular side discharge deck.

I know Chris has thought many times that the X300 is overkill for me, however, if I did get one of he LA models I just listed, the difference in price was only about $700. To me, the Kaw engine, sturdier frame and parts, PLUS, 2-year additional warranty, justified the $700 price difference between the two. Heck, just one repair to the LA series between years 2 and 4 pays for the price difference.

I will post photos of my lawn and tractor next Saturday or Sunday as they will be delivering my tractor I think, next Friday.

Thanks to everyone for all of your help and insight. I am sure I will be speaking to everyone as I progress with the tractor just to keep everyone informed of its performance.

Definitely should last you a life time. I was considering both the Regent 22/44 and the X300. I went with the Regent simply b/c of the price difference.....$300 for me, plus the quality of cut that the Regent gives can't be beat, finally the accessories for the Regent are less $$$ too.

Well glad to see you finally made a decision. I've been thinking this whole time you were agonizing over the decision to much for your yards size. Any riding mower available anywhere would have probably suited your needs just fine for several years. You will be very happy with the X300, even though I think the LA Series would have been fine, I'm very pleased with my X500, so I'm sure you'll love your X300. Show some pictures once you get it.

Hi Chris and Everyone...I got thinking Chris...Even though I agree with just about everything you have indicated to me in your posts...there must be something that keeps a novice of the tractor world, such as myself, thinking a bit different than most of you, who already have experience with lawn tractors. Hard to explain, but I am sure, full blown common sense never entered my mind. I am sure, like everything else, once I start mowing and a year or two goes by, I will be telling another person that the next X300 model they might be considering could be overkill too.

My blood pressure is back to normal now and I just cannot wait to use the darn tractor and snap some photos.

Thanks again to all for the kind comments.

Adman - you're just like the rest of us. We all want our tractor to be just a little bit bigger and badder than what we really need.

You know what they say....Sometimes a Tractor is just a Tractor!

:congrats: on the X300!!!

Adman you did well. I have never heard a complaint of a person who gets more than he needs, lots of complaints from those who get good enough. There is a 'joy' in experiencing the bit extra the better option gives you. I do have a few friends who love to get less tractor, car, truck, snowmobile and say it is all they needed and somehow get joy from that as well. BUT that is not me nor do I think it is most of us.

Yea I could get home in a YUGO and mow with a push reel mower but not with a smile on my face.

LOVE YOUR TRACTOR FOR YEARS

10 hour break in period....hmm, my x320 manual says 8 hours. Is the 17hp different that 22hp?
Nope, same-o / same-o. Jd put 8 hours in the manual. A lot will let it coast up to 10 before they changed the oil and filter. If they put 10 hours in the manual, some would let it coast up to 15.

Oh, Adman, congrats on the new X300. You made a good choice.:wwp:

Adman - Congratulations! Waiting for you to get that machine was like waiting for a woman in labor! I think you made a great choice!
After you cut the lawn, you'll be looking for any reason to go cut it again. I suggest you cut it first at 4" --- this will give you the opportunity to recut it to 3" - then perhaps 2.5"

Way to go, Adman. You'll have no regrets moving up to the X300. You can mow comfortably, knowing it's highly unlikely you'll ever overtax the machine; indeed, you may get the "gardening bug" and develop uses for it you hadn't planned on.

I have to say that reading all of your complimentary comments is making me chuckle a bit, because your answers are true. Since I tortured myself for weeks procrastinating this purchase, my mind for some reason has made another 360 and cannot wait to get on this tractor and mow and mow and mow. Maybe I will get the bug and want to add additional tasks.

I do not even have the tractor yet but when i was signing the paperwork, I decided already to dress in John Deere garb to show off in front of my neighbors. I bought a JD tee shirt, ball cap and sweatshirt. I live on a great cul-d-sac circle, with great neighbors. We are all very close, but now, when my immediate neighbors are on their Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, and this Troy-Built tractor, I will just tip my hat toward them while on my mean, green and yellow machine.

Should be fun.

:thThumbsU looking forward to the pics. There are 2 types of tractor owners. Those of us with Deere and those who wish they had them:trink40: slkpk
