A guy 3.5 hrs from me has a cab, snowblower, weights, and chains for sale. His is a Sierra 1648H, I have a Grand Sierra 2200. I would really like the soft cab for my Grand Sierra. Does anybody know if it will fit? I can't seem to find much on the Sierra 1648H. The price is right, but it's a long drive if the stuff isn't compatible with my machine. I already have a blower, weights and chains, so the real draw is the cab.
Well, I considered the options, and decided that for the price I couldn't get hurt too bad. Made the 7 hour round trip. Here is a pic of the cab "test fitted" on my Grand Sierra. Yes there will need to be tweeks, but I think it will be workable.
The rear mounts fit under the seat, I will need to drill 2 holes in the fender pan to attach those. The front stationary upright mounts attach to the footrests nicely. There are two shorter front mount pieces that I will need to make replacements for, as they need to go to the front of the footrest (my best guess) They don't work that way as they are. There is one crossmember that I cannot figure out where it is supposed to go, I am waiting to get everything else secured before deciding if I need to make something for that. The doors are rear opening, and currently hit the lower fenders, so will need some reshaping. But all in all, I was quite happy with the original fit.
I haven't found any part number yet. I didn't have time the last couple days to spend much time on it. I broke the snowblower on my old John Deere 212 in the last snowfall we got, so I have been concentrating on that. Got the Deer snowblower finished today, and did some snow cleanup at the property I use the Deere 212 at. I used the Grand Sierra with the cab as it is a couple of times, sort of discovering changes I want before I finish locking down the installation. I'm trying to keep a tractor at each property, to avoid having to load and haul them from spot to spot.
Update: Even though it is functional, it was not an absolutely correct fit. Runagun pointed out to me that there was a cab actually FOR a GS2200 for sale about 3 hours away from me, so I picked that up as well. I was talking with a co-worker, and it turns out he has an Ariens that the snowblower and cab were meant for, so I sold it to him. I made enough to cover my cost of going to pick it up, and he is letting me keep the cab to use for the winter, so I don't have to go through the hassle of swapping in an unheated shed. I'm happy with that deal, and next year I have the correct cab.
