I purchased a well-used LT1000 Craftsman this week with visions of it being my next aircraft tug project. I found the frame is cracked so I stripped the tractor completely down, including removing the hydro transm. I found that the fan blade has been destroyed. Can someone provide me directions to correctly remove the large nut on top of the fan/pulley arrangement? Again, the tranny is out of the tractor and can freewheel so that is my dilemma and I don't want to break anything (else!)? How do I safely lock up the input shaft to get torque to break loose the nut?

Hello TexP51. I responded in your request in the other forum, but will also do so here. That is the same trans that is in my LTX1000. The threads are RH, the nut is 1/2-20 NF. On mine, I removed the nut with an impact gun. I used a strap wrench to hold the pulley while I torqued the nut for installation. It was a *****, but I got it torqued. I suppose an impact could be used to torque the nut, just be careful of over torquing.
