Yes a normal person with common hand tools can repair the hydraulics on the N models. It is suggested strongly that you have a buddy or two to help you do the heavy lifting so you do not damage some of the internal linkages!!

I suggest that you have a shop manual handy and do plenty of research before hand!:thThumbsU

Here's a good MTF link with a bunch of info to download on the N's including shop and operator manuals.

Found the "8N-Hydraulic-Lift-How-To-Repair-Economically" write up I was looking for, it's a PDF so you'll have to down load it.

Rebuilding the pump isn't bad at all. Like said above though, and extra set of hands to man handle it is nice.

The pump is pretty heavy so getting it out and then back in again might be the hardest part.
alright sense i'm redoing my old 9n, i was debating if i should spend the money and just rebuild it now or just wait, it worked fine when the tractor was running.

But i thought i read you needed a tool for alignment, heck that could of been something else. I work on alot of vehicles, and not enough of my own stuff lol.

I also see a jig that allows for the correct adjustment so the tractor will raise 3 point all the way wonder what the jig looks like and what it "bends" to make it correct
Shouldn't be any "bending".

The adjustsments are in the quadrant position and to a lesser degree the draft spring compression.

There are a ton of DIY's on how to test/adjust the linkages and spring tension to make it work.
Where do I look up the DIY at
Where ya gonna find somebody "normal".?......Not around here I betcha!
well thats true(no normal humans around here) but we are normal, and thanks, didn't know how i should search it.
Oh so it doesn't seem to bad to adjust that, next is how tight to i make the big spring on the back. I know probably dumb questions, but you guys are the ones with the knowledge, i would just like the tractor to be right when i get it put back together

Might save you the trouble of tearing it back apart later! :fing32:

that is what i was thinking, because i plan on painting the tractor almost as a complete assembly. that way all the bolts get covered and i don't have to worry about scratching it with a socket, you know how new paint is.

All depends on how well it worked before you took the tractor apart and only you can decide if it worked to your satisfaction. Did it lift loads with out knocking? Not did it hold them but did it lift. I would not do it unless it just really was showing signs of loss of pressure. I would rebuild the lift cylinder while it is down.

I've got 1 8N with a completely dead pump and now after working the other VERY hard all Summer, the second is starting to knock.
A little knock is not going to hurt a thing, in fact if you listen close enough most any of them with any age will be. Main thing is does it still lift (which your isn't) and most that have weak lift is due to leaking lilft cylinders and not weak pump pressure. It will also make more noise with the thin 134D oil vs the 90wt.
