I did not know these existed till today. Working on a new Street Hole patch truck and noticed this under the chassis. From the look of the breaker panel it packs a punch.

I want the hydraulics off of the thing!

I'd be willing to take the generator, too.

I bet that's not efficient at all...


I think it’s efficient as the diesel is running all day anyway to run the hydraulic patcher and has excess power not being used why not run a generator. There are power losses in the hydraulics but not a concern as below total hydro power available. My 2 cents

Thinking about it, not sure it would have a steday (60 hz), Looks like mostly to keep the goo heaters hot.

Care to explain this comment?
The 60 Hertz is the frequency over time average. The tolerance is usually around +/- 0.5 Hertz depending on the grid code where you live, the number of generators coming online/offline to maintain the power needs of the grid and a few other things. Sure, an instantaneous check of the frequency may show different values above and below that tolerance.
