Hybrid/Frankenmower Sticky....?

2822 Views 23 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  junebug1701
Just wanted to toss it out there Brad/Echoman (moderators) and see if there is enough interest to create a sticky for Hybrid/Frankenmowers.

Guys on here have so much technical knowledge and ability to create great mowers from engine deck swaps it would almost be cool to have a sticky dedicated to showing them off so people can replicate copy etc. I have done a Honda GCV on a Lawnboy deck (Like JASON) and Indy452 just did a Suzuki on a Toro deck (from a snapper).

Just a thought, and I will donate the first offering (Honda GCV160 on a Lanwboy 10304 self propelled deck).

I think its a great idea!

I would also ask that posters of hybrid/frankenmowers (great term:fing32:) would explain (however brief or lengthy they want) what modifications it took to complete their project. That way it would give others an idea what is involved so we might know if its a project we might want to tackle.

If you can put what modifications you had to make to the blade or the adapter to get the engine to work with that particular deck. A lot of "customs" I have seen are real hacks where they ground down 21" blades to fit inside 19" decks and then sold this creation to some poor fool who wonders why they can't find a replacement blade :banghead3 However, GTP that Honda/Boy looks really nice :fing32:

There will be a lot of questions for each project... it probably wouldnt stay organized very well. A thread like that should be for posting your stuff and no followup posts. The followup posts and comments kind of spoil the pictures thread already stickied here. You could use the pictures thread for these as well, just make sure you post as much information about its uniqueness in your posts. Even the LB pictures threads should have more information about the mower you post than most leave. We need more than just a model number. For example in your pics above we see no attachment of the original transmission to the new engine... no pics or information to how this was done. I think folks would like the model numbers of the mowers you took apart to create the new mower also or was it an NOS engine you"found" in a box in the back of a truck you forgot you bought 6 months ago.. :thThumbsU

I did a V-Engine on a Recycler deck
I have a few creations in my Mind right now as well, just need to finish other projects.

I agree with Ford, If there is a sticky made, i think it should be a no reply type..

I agree. A sticky that links to THREADS about Frankenmowers would be nice to have.
Sounds like a good idea.

That's one great job on that Honda/LB conversion! Looks factory. Very very cool.
Here you go, Gents. Post away.

I put some basic rules/suggestions I would like to be followed. I think they will work out real good.

1. If you have a Frankenmower that you have put together, put it in this thread. Tell all you want, as many photos as you want, anything you would like to tell about it. Only the makers post goes in this thread. No questions, comments in here.

2. After, or before if you like, put a post in the normal walkbehind section telling that you have made a post in the Frankenmower thread. If you have questions about this mower or comments, etc., post them in the announcement thread in the normal walkbehind section. That way the informational post about the mower will not get cluttered with discussions and out of sequence.

These aren't rules for preventing discussions on the mowers themselves. It will help keep the thread nice and clean. Feel free to post a link in your Frankenmower post in the stickie that will connect to the discussion post.

Does this all sound acceptable and feasible?

Thanks guys. Hope this helps the Frankenmower fans.

The only problem with this site in that respect is that you have that stupid time limitation to edit a thread. So if one had a pic or two to add a couple days later or more information that would aleviate the need for questions the editing of the thread is no longer avaliable. Since we dont have an active for sale forum here like other sites where limiting editing can be helpful in keeping people honest, I just dont see a benefit in having this editing limitation.

I don't know anything about the reason for limiting the editing. If you had something to add later on, you could either contact one of the Admins, Super-mods, or Echoman and it could be inserted in the original post, or if nothing else has been posted subsequent to your Frankenmower post, just make another post in the thread. That would not be considered a problem, I don't think. (I don't want to speak for Echoman as this is his forum to moderate as well.)

The admin could fix it pretty easily.

I moderate a vBulletin board as well, and can shed some light on this. The editing time limit is generally used, ironically, to keep people honest. If someone says something to which someone else has replied/quoted, you don't generally want folks to be able to edit something they've said two days later.

True, this sub-forum doesn't have a for sale section, but I believe the edit time limit is a board-wide setting. So you have to enact the policy for the lowest-common denominator, and it applies to the entire site.

This is why we have a quote button, so that the edits of the previous post will not matter, you have a copy of the original in your quote. The time limit has little use on a site like this.

You didn't really write this, but it looks like you did.
Well, for what it's worth, you can put anything within the quote brackets. I added an entire sentence to your post that you didn't really write.

Whatever, I was trying to make a suggestion to make it better but if you would rather chase down a moderator to edit your posts have freakin at it.
Everytime I make any suggestion to make this site better all I get is :lalala::Stop::hide:
Geez, man. All I did was attempt an answer to your question, and explain why a feature is still useful. If you still don't agree, that's fine.

Have a wonderful day.
