I'm planning on getting one but don't know about the Kawasaki dependability and repair/parts costs. The Airfield and Grounds dept at the airport I retired from had the commercial front decks and those guys couldn't tear them up. By comparison, purchasing ordered Kubota fronts to replace the aging Hustlers and they didn't last but a few years. If these home owner types are close to as good as the commercial, which they claim they are, then it should be a great machine. I'm going with an independent dealer for the support afterwards instead of the big box stores.

The hustler are a very good machine. We have three of the sports at work which is the cheapest model they make. The raptor is the replacement I think.

All are 7 years old with many hours and so far just maintenance needed. Belts, couple flat tires, and a broken spindle from a stump. These are used by many different people too.

The larger machines are built even heavier, but even the small machines have welded decks.

I got the Raptor SD 54" yesterday the 14th. I went with my dealer here in the county I live in so I will have the support from them. Very friendly and knowlegable of the machines. Hustler has a $200 off their machines plus a 24, 36 or 48 month 0% interest offer. Got approved in less than 20 minutes and he delivered it some 30 miles for free. He even went over the does and don'ts and maintenance best practices. The reason I went with the SD (Supoer Duty) is because the blade shafts are 1" vs 3/4" on the standard raptor and the front forks are 3/8" vs 1/4 or 5/16 on the standard. The frame is heavy duty and the front arms are super reinforced. I went with the 25 horse Kohler mainly I guess because it's an American name and I assume parts availability and cost will be better. It also has the auto choke vs manual choke on the Kawasaki. Oh, and it's cheaper too. All total I mowed my acre today in less than 30 minutes for $4,200 including 3% dealer fee, $50 loan processing fee and taxes. Not bad for a machine this beefy I guess.
