Recently bought a Husqvarna 350 chainsaw for pretty cheap. It has a small oil leak that I’ve diagnosed to a small valve in the oil tank housing. The first pic is with a full tank of oil sitting for 3 days. I cleaned up the saw but you can see how much oil has leaked out the bottom. It makes a pretty good mess.

The second pic shows a close up of the valve. I can’t find any info on this valve. If it’s meant to relieve pressure inside the tank is it normal for it to leak? I can understand a full tank of oil and the temperature fluctuations we’ve been having that pressure has to go somewhere. Or has the valve failed and it’s letting oil leak?

The only way to get it out that I can think of is to thread a screw into it and pull it out. There’s no way to access it from inside the tank on the other side.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

In the grand scheme of things, that oil leak is not bad.:tango_face_smile:

I have one saw, a 346XP which is my favorite of all the saws I have. Worked on it once to fix the oil leak to no avail. It leaks much worse than yours. I used to get wound up about it but now just sit it on a piece of carpet to soak it up and don't put away with a full tank of oil. Problems solved and I don't fret anymore which is a big deal if you knew me.:tango_face_grin:

It’s not leaking bad but it’s bad enough I’d like to try and fix it. If it was a simple screw in/out piece it would be done and I’d move on. What makes me hesitate is the uncertainty that: one, I can even get it out, and two that I won’t damage the housing in the process.

I recall reading on a Husqvarna forum recently, to crack the fill cap and retighten it before putting it away. That way if it had any pressure built up, that would relieve it ??? Not sure if this actually works, as my "leaky" 350 is currently on the shelf awaiting a rebuild !
