I know the Ht18 and the ht20 model 2086 had the gold trim on the decals i have had both of them.And in 74 the 2087 ht20 came with the red fmc logo.I have never seen a ht18 with the red fmc logo.Reason i am unsure of maybe somthing to do with fmc taking over?
HT20 and HT18 decals question
I see sams has to different set of decals for both, one with the red FMC on the front with no dog and there in black and white And the other the gold and black with the gold dog on the front.
My question is, are the gold decals some special thing?
I never seen a HT20 or HT18 with the gold ones till the other day when a friend of mine got his first bolens and it has the original gold decals on it.
All my HT20 and HT18 stuff has the black and white decals.
Why would bolens do that?
Any on have an idea on this one?

So we could of just got another way of dateing the large frames years and runs.

I know fmc had a stake in it from early on.But when the decals change came i think they had a vast majority owneship then.Don't know the complete history so this info could be wrong.
I agree with this thinking. It was the same with the tube frames. My 73 G10 had black and gold with the husky pup, and my 74's had the black and red FMC...I believe the gold ones were used in 1973 only .I've seen more of those than the other ones up here in my neck of the woods.
I looked at the parts manual for the 1973 model 2086 HT20 vs. the 1974 and up model 2087 HT20 and the part numbers for the decals are different.
I also looked at the G10 parts manual, and they had 2 different decals. One for the 1973 and a different set for 1974-1977 models.
That would lead me to believe that the change from gold to red was made in 1974, and was probably across all models.
